Originally from Maine, Dr. Katie Guarino chose veterinary medicine because of her passion for helping animals and supporting the people who care for them. Her path to becoming a veterinarian was a unique one, as she moved countries and completed her veterinary education during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Guarino graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) in 2024. Since graduation, she has been practicing exclusively in emergency medicine, where she has developed a special interest in caring for critically ill and injured patients. She is also passionate about Fear Free medicine and is dedicated to creating a positive experience for both pets and their families, particularly during stressful and emotional situations.
What Dr. Guarino loves most about her work is being able to help animals during their time of greatest need while providing compassionate support and clear communication to their owners. She believes that empathy and understanding are just as important as medical expertise when navigating challenging cases.
When she's not at the hospital, Katie enjoys spending time with her two cats. A fun fact about her is that although she's currently a proud cat owner, she secretly dreams of one day having a whole herd of giant-breed dogs!
