Riverview Animal Health Centre is so excited to announce the availability of Computed tomography (CT) Scans at our hospital. If you have ever wondered what CT’s are all about, here is some information.What is Computed Tomography?
A CT is a type of x-ray that takes detailed slices of the body part that needs to be x-rayed. The cool thing about that is once all these slices are taken, the computer is able to put these images together to produce a 3D picture that tells the Doctor more information about the organ, bone, or blood vessels than any other diagnostic tool at a vet hospital.
What animals can have it done?
Any animal can have this procedure done, from a small pocket pet to a large 200lb dog.
Why would your pet have a CT scan done?
CT scans are used to help find cancer, spinal cord injury, sinus diseases, bone abnormalities, evaluate internal organs (like heart, bladder, kidneys, liver) or even blood vessels. This amazing piece of equipment changes veterinary medicine by allowing Veterinarians to diagnosis conditions that may have previously needed to go to surgery.
How does my pet go about getting a CT?
The best way for your pet to have a CT scan is to talk to your Veterinarian. If your vet thinks a CT would be beneficial they simply have to contact our Doctors and we will get your pet in as soon as possible.
